Selected Music Video Productions
Every music video comes with its own creative challenges. Here are a few examples of projects I've directed and helped bring to life.
Hardwell, Snoop Dogg & Conor Maynard — How You Love Me
Music Video Direction | Creative Concept | Visual Storytelling
When I was invited to pitch for the official music video for Hardwell, Snoop Dogg, and Conor Maynard's How You Love Me, the brief came with a particularly tight deadline. I developed a story about love, relationships, and the memories we collect along the way, all unfolding from the perspective of a car traveling through different locations.
What started with a director's treatment written in less than 24 hours became a full-scale music video production involving road closures, multiple filming locations, and a fantastic team at New Amsterdam Film Company. The finished music video tells a story through carefully planned cinematography, production design, and a visual perspective that connects the different chapters.
Hardwell ft. Jonathan Mendelsohn — Echo
Music Video Direction | Concept Development | Editing
For Hardwell and Jonathan Mendelsohn's Echo, the creative brief was simple: make a music video in the snow. That request eventually took us to the mountains of Bulgaria, where we developed a cinematic narrative about loss, memory, and emotional connection.
What followed was one of the most unpredictable productions I've experienced. Snowstorms, powerful winds, constantly changing lighting conditions, and challenging locations forced us to adapt our plans throughout the shoot.
Despite those obstacles, we created a visually distinctive music video built around dramatic landscapes and an emotional story that gained more than 35 million views on YouTube.
Nielson & Tabitha — Slapen Met Het Licht Aan
Music Video Direction | Creative Treatment | Narrative Development
For Dutch artists Nielson and Tabitha, I developed a music video concept inspired by the way mobile phones influence human connection.
The production combined contrasting black-and-white performance environments with carefully designed narrative scenes, creating a visual interpretation of the song's underlying message.
Working alongside Sony Music and New Amsterdam Film Company, we developed the treatment, storyboards, shot lists, production design, and filming approach before bringing everything together in post-production.
I've documented the complete process, including original production materials and behind-the-scenes photographs.
Music Video Production Services
Every artist and project is different. Some productions need a complete creative concept and a director. Others already have a production team in place and need someone to bring a specific vision to life or shape the finished film.
I collaborate with artists, labels, producers, and production companies across different stages of the music video production process.
Creative Direction & Music Video Treatments
Every memorable music video starts with an idea worth exploring. I develop concepts that translate the music's atmosphere, lyrics, themes, and emotional direction into a visual story.
Depending on the project, creative development can involve a music video treatment, visual references, mood boards, narrative structures, shot lists, and storyboards. A strong treatment gives everyone involved a shared understanding of what we're trying to create before production begins.
Music Video Directing & Filming
As a music video director, my responsibility is to turn the approved concept into a cohesive film. That means making creative decisions about performances, storytelling, cinematography, locations, lighting, and the overall visual direction.
For every production, I collaborate with producers, cinematographers, art departments, and experienced production partners to bring the concept to life.
Whether the project involves one carefully designed performance setup or an elaborate narrative across several locations, the priority remains the same: making every creative decision serve the music.
Music Video Editing & Post-Production
The edit is where a music video truly comes together.
As both a director and freelance music video editor, I understand how decisions made during production translate into rhythm, emotion, pacing, and storytelling in the finished video.
I usually edit both projects I've directed and footage created by other production teams, or hire an external editor to get the job done. Depending on the project, post-production can include performance editing, narrative development, creative transitions, and collaboration with colourists, visual effects artists, and other finishing specialists.
Artist Content, Teasers & Promotional Edits
A music video often becomes part of a larger release campaign. Alongside full-length music videos, I also work on artist trailers, music teasers, social-first edits, concert films, and other music-related visual content.
Depending on the brief, this can include additional edits for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms, helping artists make use of their visual assets across a wider campaign.
My Music Video Production Process
Creating a professional music video involves much more than arriving on set with a camera.
A successful production connects the original creative idea with practical planning, clear communication, and thoughtful execution.
Here's how I typically approach the process.
1. Understanding the Music & Creative Brief
Everything starts with a conversation.
I want to understand the song, the artist, the intended audience, the release plans, and what the music video should communicate.
Sometimes an artist already has a strong visual idea. Other times, there's only a track and a feeling they want to translate into images.
Both are valid starting points.
This is also where we discuss the available budget, schedule, and production requirements so the creative direction fits the project's practical possibilities.
2. Concept Development & Pre-Production
Once we establish the direction, I develop the creative approach.
That might involve writing a narrative, creating a director's treatment, gathering visual references, developing storyboards, or planning how different performance sequences will connect.
With the relevant production partners, the concept can then be translated into filming locations, casting requirements, crew arrangements, equipment, schedules, and other production details.
I've learned that good preparation creates more freedom on set, especially when things don't go exactly as planned.
3. Music Video Filming
Production is where the months, weeks, or days of preparation finally become moving images.
As the director, I work with the artists and production crew to capture the performances, scenes, and moments needed to tell the story.
Some productions are highly controlled studio shoots. Others involve outdoor locations, unpredictable weather, complex camera movements, or extensive production design.
Whatever the circumstances, I focus on preserving the creative vision while making the best possible decisions with the time and resources available.
4. Editing, Colour Grading & Final Delivery
Once filming wraps, the footage moves into post-production.
The edit establishes the rhythm, visual structure, and emotional progression of the film.
Depending on my role, I may edit the music video myself or collaborate with another editor while overseeing the creative direction.
Additional finishing work, such as colour grading and visual effects, is planned according to the project's requirements.
The final deliverables, formats, and revision process are agreed upon as part of the production scope.
The result should feel like a complete piece of visual storytelling, not simply a collection of interesting shots.
How Much Does Music Video Production Cost?
One of the first questions artists and record labels ask is how much it costs to produce a professional music video.
The answer depends on your requirements and what it takes to bring the concept to life to help you achieve the outcome you are looking for.
A simple performance video filmed in one location has very different production requirements from a cinematic narrative involving actors, multiple locations, elaborate lighting setups, and extensive post-production.
Some of the biggest factors affecting music video production costs include:
Creative concept: The complexity of the story, visual treatment, and production requirements.
Filming locations: Studios, outdoor locations, travel, permits, and logistics.
Production crew: Cinematography, lighting, art direction, styling, production assistance, and specialist personnel.
Shoot duration: The number of filming days required to execute the concept.
Post-production: Editing, colour grading, visual effects, and additional finishing work.
Final deliverables: The main video and any additional edits or promotional content.
I believe a good concept should work with the available resources rather than depend on an unrealistic budget.
If you already have an approximate production budget, share it with me when you get in touch via the project inquiry form. That gives us a useful starting point for discussing the creative possibilities and determining the appropriate production approach.
Why Work With Me?
More Than a Decade of Filmmaking Experience
Over the past 10+ years, I've worked on more than 250 projects spanning music videos, artist documentaries, commercials, live performances, concert films, and promotional content.
That experience has taken me through every stage of the filmmaking process, from pitching ideas and directing artists to navigating complicated shoots and spending long hours in the editing suite.
Experience With International Artists & Production Teams
My portfolio includes work connected to artists and organisations such as Hardwell, Snoop Dogg, HAEVN, Martin Garrix, Sony Music, and Universal Music.
Projects I've worked on have collectively reached more than one billion views worldwide.
My experience also includes internationally distributed films, festival recognition, and productions created for audiences across different platforms.
A Director Who Understands the Edit
One of the advantages of working as both a music video director and editor is understanding how the two disciplines influence each other.
I think about how footage will connect in the edit while developing the concept and directing the shoot.
That helps create a stronger relationship between the story, the performance, the cinematography, and the final rhythm of the video.
International Collaboration
I'm based in Dubai and work with artists, record labels, and production teams internationally.
Whether you need a director for an upcoming shoot, a creative partner to develop a concept, or an editor to bring existing footage together, I'm open to discussing projects across different locations and production setups.
Music Video Deliverables: What Can Be Included?
Every production is scoped around the project's specific requirements.
Depending on the creative brief and the agreed services, deliverables may include:
A creative concept and director's treatment.
Storyboards, visual references, and shot lists.
Music video direction and creative oversight.
A professionally edited music video.
Coordination with colour grading, VFX, or other finishing specialists.
Additional teaser edits and social media cutdowns.
Final files prepared for the agreed release platforms.
Not every project requires all of these elements.
Some clients already have a production company and need a director. Others have completed filming and only require editing or post-production support.
I'll determine what makes sense for your project before agreeing on the scope.
Frequently Asked Questions About Music Video Production
What does a music video production company do?
A music video production company helps turn a song into a finished visual project. Depending on the scope, this can involve developing the concept, hiring a director and film crew, arranging locations, filming performances, managing production logistics, and overseeing post-production.
I work as a music video director and editor, collaborating with production companies and crews when projects require additional production resources.
How much does it cost to produce a professional music video?
Music video production costs depend on the concept, number of locations, crew size, filming schedule, and post-production requirements.
A relatively simple performance-based production can require far fewer resources than a complex narrative film. The best way to establish a realistic budget is to share your track, creative references, and approximate financial scope so the production can be planned around your priorities.
How long does music video production take?
Timelines vary considerably.
A straightforward production can move relatively quickly, while a more elaborate concept may require additional time for creative development, location scouting, casting, filming, and post-production.
Your desired release date is an important part of the initial conversation. From there, we can evaluate what's achievable and establish an appropriate production schedule.
Can you create a music video concept from scratch?
Yes. Creative development is an important part of my directing work.
I can develop a visual idea from the song, its lyrics, atmosphere, and the artist's creative identity.
That process may involve writing a concept, developing a narrative, and presenting the visual direction through a music video treatment.
If you already have an idea, I can also help develop it into a more complete production concept.
Do you direct both performance and narrative music videos?
Yes. My experience includes performance-based music videos, cinematic narratives, and productions that combine both approaches.
The right format depends on the music, the creative idea, and what the artist wants the audience to experience.
Can you work with my existing production company or film crew?
Yes. I'm comfortable collaborating with existing production teams, record labels, and other creative professionals.
I can join a project during concept development, direct a production organised by another company, or work with footage filmed by another team during post-production.
The collaboration structure depends on what the project needs.
Do you offer music video editing without directing?
Yes. Alongside music video directing, I offer freelance editing services.
I work with artists, directors, and production companies to edit performance videos, narrative music videos, and other artist-focused content.
Remote editing collaborations are also possible, allowing me to work with teams internationally.
Can you produce a music video in another country?
I'm based in Dubai and have worked on productions internationally.
For directing projects in other countries, the possibilities depend on the filming location, production resources, schedule, travel arrangements, and overall project scope.
If you're planning an international music video production, share the location and proposed dates when you enquire.
